Andrea Martinisi has been selected to represent New Zealand at the 2026 ASI Best Sommelier of the World competition in Lisbon — a competition that tests far more than a nice palate.
It is wine knowledge, blind tasting, service, composure, recall, judgement and stamina, all under pressure.
In other words: serious chops.
In wine, we can sometimes be quick to celebrate the bottle and too slow to recognise the calibre of the professionals behind the experience.
